EDUARDO SALAZAR ORTUÑO

Environmental lawyer

Eduardo Salazar Ortuño is public interest Environmental Lawyer and Administrative Law Adjunct Professor at the University of Murcia (Spain). 

Committed on the protection of Nature through the Law and the social action, he started the defence of Segura River in Southeast Spain enforcing criminal environmental law against polluters and authorities.

Eduardo is an expert on the Aarhus Convention, signed in 1998 at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe to empower citizens and NGOs to defence the environment using access to information, public participation and access to Justice. He was representing Spanish NGOs before authorities and Courts from 2002 to 2019 to save the last wild coast of Murcia from resorts developments, getting back the consideration of natural protected area.

The last years he was mostly dealing with the Mar Menor ecological crisis providing legal advice to NGOs and citizens before Administrations and Courts and promoting from the University of Murcia’s Chair of Human Rights and Rights of Nature, created by Prof. Teresa Vicente, legal personhood for the coastal lagoon and its basin.
